Linda Loffmin spent her childhood in Elizabethton, TN in the 50’s and 60’s. During this time, exposure to art was seldom presented; therefore Linda took art classes in both high school and at East Tennessee State University. Moving to large cities to pursue both a career and a family left little time for her art hobby. Retirement has been the ticket to finding her freedom to explore the various forms art can take. She has explored both still life, landscape (including plein air}, and animal paintings in numerous mediums using traditional oils, watercolors, and pastels. At present she is delving into unknown territories such as watercolor batik (wax resist) on rice paper and silk (rozome), silk and fabric painting (serti), collage and mixed mediums. As no classes are available in the Tri-Cities area for silk painting, she is learning the technique by incorporating research in books and online instructions as well as experimenting on her own with a variety of techniques. This technique is enhanced by using wax pencils, crayons, etc. She cherishes the feel and texture of the naturally produced silks and rice papers from Japan.
Linda has taught classes in watercolor batik and has sold paintings in several venues. She also has paintings hanging in homes in Italy as well as the United States. Her artwork can be viewed in the area at various art galleries and exhibitions.
